  BE WARNED!!!! We have stayed at Samarinda every year for the last 4 years over the New Years week. 8 families with young kids stay every year. This was our LAST year. We have stayed in pretty much every apartment at Samarinda and apart from 2 of them, they are sorely lacking in basic amenities. Virtually none have adequate fans so be prepared to be very hot!! The kitchen supplies and furniture are also very basic and often with inadequate kitchen supplies. Despite the below average quality of the apartments, the location is fantastic being very close to Point Lookout shops and the beach.
  
  The final straw however was the property manager Peter. He is best described as a self proclaimed "rule enforcer" he stands guard in the pool before 7:30am and won't allow people into the pool. He aggressively removes you from the BBQ area in the evenings even if you are eating your dinner. It is entirely normal to have "rules" or hours in which you can use the pool and BBQ but it is the manner in which Peter rudely pushes you out, irrespective of whether it is actually disturbing other guests that makes for a very unpleasant experience. The challenge is that the apartments and their balconies are very small so you simply can't eat dinner with more than one family anywhere but the pool/BBQ area. Hence being so pedantic about when you must vacate the area simply ruins your holiday.
  
  They also do not fix things when they break. There is no phone service at this establishment but they charge for WiFi (despite advertising free WiFi) which charges your credit card for $40 but then doesn't work and Peter refuses to do anything about it.
  
  We stayed at Samarinda for 4 years and spent over $60,000 in accommodation costs between us, the location is fantastic but we will not be returning. If you are one family you should be fine. If you are a group, be warned that you will be bullied by the property manager!!!

  We have just returned from a 3 night stay. The location is excellent.Wonderful walks close by, the beach is close, and shops are within a 5 minute walk. Great views.
  There was no phone service, but not the fault of the accomodation. No wi-fi? Great- u r on holidays!!
  A bit dated but overall great value. It could do with renovating but the unit owner won't get more rent so I can see why the condition is as it is. Maybe I am old but I like quiet and would be happy if boisterous guests are told to keep it quiet. We found the management to be friendly and approachable.
  We have 2 noisy kids - I wouldn't be happy hearing their screaming at 7am so opening the pool at 7.30am makes sense to me.
  We liked it and would recommend it to others. Not sure of ownership/ title but a few things like taps and shower heads could be replaced as the weather and salt water proximity obviously causes maintenance issues. The pool was very nice with excellent water quality.
  Overall we enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning - if you want a five star experience with air con book elsewhere and pay the difference.
  In summary, great value for a great location.

  I believe we stayed in unit 14. I would describe it as somewhat modest but comfortable 3 star apartment (although a 4 star label would probably be in line with modern internet standards). It's a 2nd floor unit with great views, nice balcony, good tv, ok couch, comfortable bed (most important) and a good kitchen. The WIFI signal was slow but functional.
  
  I don't think the location of Samarinda can be beat. Walking distance to beach, point lookout, health food store and the shops near Point lookout. It's a quiet location, especially at night time.
  
  The managers were friendly and efficient. Check in / out was fast and easy.
  
  Our travels took us from Noosa to Byron Bay. Straddie and Samarinda was one of our favorites. Highly recommended. Next time we will definitely stay for longer.
